Is this an oasis of the old times, or a sanctuary of Socialism?
The Trajeckaje Neighborhood used to be an old but unremarkable quarter till early 1980s when it survived demolition and became the escape for those who searched for old Minsk. That’s when Trajeckaje faced inevitable reconstruction.
The Island of Tears, located on the bank of Svislač River across from Trajeckaje, is a part of land that emerged in 1980 after the artificial expansion of the river. Since then, it has been the venue of remembrance of Afghanistan war soldiers killed and remembered. The chapel was opened in 1996 – the time of Belarus’ independence revival.
