BANGALORE SQUARE

BANGALORE SQUARE
The square is named after Minsk’s twin city of Bangalore in India. This remote area is ideal for strolling and dog walking. Bangalore Square is infamous for being the venue for traditional annual rallies organized by Belarusian opposition – Freedom Day (March 25) and Chernobyl Way (April 26). The rallies used to take place in central Minsk but authorities eventually blocked all downtown venues for opposition-staged events, leaving only this remote square and a nearby park for public protests. The authorized opposition demonstrations usually start at Metro station Akademija Navuk and proceed along Surhanava street to Bangalore square where they end in a rally with speeches by opposition leaders.
