CECH is a creative cluster with a special ambiance located at vul. Kastryčnickaja 16. It can help you see Minsk from a perspective different than the kitsch of art shops. In its short history, CECH has organized several must-see events like the World Press Photo 2016 exposition or the launch and exhibition of BY NOW - the first catalogue of young Belarusian photographers. It regularly hosts hand-made fashion fairs, master classes and discussions with local and international speakers.
There are several other similar but slightly less spacious venues in Minsk for semi-underground or, to be more exact, parallel existence. Art Siadziba (Art Manor) and the headquarters of Belarusian Popular Front party are one of those. The latter is the office of a political party but has become an iconic place, because culture in Belarus just like sport means also politics. For how long they will remain in the same location is not a matter of market conditions or organizers’ plans. Rather, it depends on the will of the authorities. In Belarus, any initiative can be blocked by ‘a phone call from above’ - there is no need for a stamped document. Today an artiste goes openly critical of the authorities, tomorrow her or his concert can be cancelled. Be reminded that the Zone is unstable.
