RESTAURANTS

At the beginning of 2010s something very important for local dining culture happened in Minsk. Creative middle class emerged from the developing IT industry. Since then, restaurants with good food and relaxed atmosphere have multiplied, even though many of them get closed in a short while. We'll tell about the places that have stood the test of time, or are enjoyed by both locals and tourists.

Tempo

An extensive chain of pizza restaurants, one of the first of such kind in the city, which is famous because of its infamous service. On the bright side, waiters are not unfamiliar with serving foreigners (especially at the popular "Tempo Pizza" near the recreation centre "NLO"). The prices are democratic enough to attract merry companies of pretty students. You might spend an eternity here, waiting for your lunch, but tourists enjoy it nevertheless

Vasilki

A chain of very accessible restaurants in the local style. This is the best choice if you are looking for a compromise between fast food and high-brow restaurant, but you are not ready to fight for every meal in a self service line, like at another popular chain - "Lido". The prices are rather European, while quality of food varies a lot. The chefs are not good at making meals with complicated or exotic ingredients, such as (any) fish. For this reason, don't take too much risks and order 'draniki' or 'maczanka' or whatever your neighbors at the next table recommend. Follow their example and have some shots of vodka or liqueur - everything's gonna be alright!

Hraj

This restaurant with Belarusian cuisine was named after the song of the cult Belarusian band "Lyapis Trubetskoy". It's located right in the courtyard of one of the most interesting museums in the historical centre, the Wankowicz House. It's a new one, so citizens of Minsk are still getting used to it, rather cautiously

Malt & Hops

As you might notice, Belarusians are best at "gastropubs": lots of cool beer and a substantial hot meal to accompany it. Malt & Hops is a successful example of such approach, just don't call it "gastropub", as it is considered a high-end restaurant.

Rakauski Brovar

This is another legendary beer restaurant with a long history: locals often come here, bring tourists and friends. Service and atmosphere still remind of the Soviet past, the food is good, but not something exquisite. Anyway, the beer is always fresh from the tank, and the most important thing - there is enough space for everyone.

Bierkeller

This beer restaurant, quite popular among IT guys, serves expensive, fat, unhealthy and, in most cases, really tasty German cuisine. More often than not, it's undistinguishable from Belarusian food. You should book a table in advance, and this is a very good recommendation by itself.

Falcone

It's the vanity fair of Minsk dining culture, and also one of the best places to spend as much money as possible on decent Italian cuisine. Upper class citizens dine here, and they prefer to see people like themselves around, so you'd better try to blend in - both in terms of appearance and finances

Kamianitsa

This is the best place with traditional Belarusian cuisine in the city, and it is considered a legend. Romantic interior, medieval-themed events... "Kamianitsa" lays far from main transportation routes, behind Gorky Park, and you'd better get there by taxi or walking across the park - the oldest one in the city, by the way.
